HORSES ON THE PRAIRIE, an original 30″ x 40″ (76.2 x 101.6 cm) oil painting on canvas was painted using a collage of photography never before seen by me. Many times I had traveled this road past the Four-Sixes Ranch outside Guthrie, Texas, yet the horses were never in sight. This particular Spring day, a hailstorm had just passed, filling the air with excitement, as the horses came out to run and play. My experience gave me a passion to paint the horse for the first time.
The colors of the north Texas prairie, with its red, clay dirt, and Mesquite trees provide a beautiful backdrop for the variations of reds, whites, and browns of the horses. Remembering those hours of entertainment, I can still hear the sounds of joy and carefree life exhibited by them.
Painted in 2009, this painting has been museum sealed and copyrighted for authenticity. It is framed, backed, ready to hang with appropriate hardware to be enjoyed for many years to come.
